Traditional craft skills for historic, contemporary and sustainable projects.

Generations of Craftsmanship

Brian follows a philosophy of preservation before renovation. Each project is approached with respect and viewed as a valuable resource containing the energy and workmanship of past masters. To achieve best practice in conservation methods, Brian has pursued education and training opportunities across the globe practising with an approach to conserve, restore, protect, retain. Underpinned by European education and training and being inspired by the past masters, Brian is developing his national and international experience by using traditional materials.

This journey has exposed Brian to traditional materials and methods not only compatible for older buildings, these techniques can also be applied to sustainable buildings and as features in contemporary design.

Plasterwork can provide:

  • Protection from the effects of weather

  • Insulation from extremes in temperature

  • Acoustic properties by improving or reducing sound

  • Sanitary properties producing hard wearing, cleanable surfaces

  • Decoration using ornate features

Brian specialises in:

  • Traditional solid plastering craftsmanship

  • Modelling, casting and moulds

  • Building lime products

Testimonials

Brian Maxwell is known to me professionally. As a conservation architect I know from personal experience that his work in the restoration of early plaster finishes is of an exceptional standard. There are no others in Queensland who have anything approaching his knowledge and expertise in the field, and indeed few in Australia.
— Richard Leonard, Allom Lovell Architects.
Brian Maxwell has carried out successful repair of plaster for Queensland Government House (among other projects) and is highly regarded in the local heritage industry for his enthusiasm for his trade and his concern to use correct conservation practice.
— Jinx Miles, Queensland Department of Housing and Public Works.
