Brian uses a variety of techniques to copy or create new ornamental pieces:
Modelling - ornamental pieces are made with clay or plaster as either a reproduction of missing details or create totally new objects.
Casting - objects are copied or reproduced.
Moulding - decorative features are restored in-situ or in the workshop for installation.
Brian is passionate about retaining the original fabric of any piece with minimal intervention. He uses compatible lime mortars and lime plasters to ensure a healthy future for generations to come.
Attention to conservation retains the original fabric with minimal intervention. Brian has developed sensitive techniques to stabilise and protect objects so they can be saved from complete deterioration.
Following stabilisation, if the desire is then to see the object interpreted to the original design after many years of deterioration, compatible materials are used for a long term solution to repair, protect and retain.
